The Dropped Stitch

I am the owner and instructor of The Dropped Stitch Studio. The studio opened on January 7th 2016, in the small mountain town of Pine, Colorado, located on the peaceful South Fork of the South Platte River. We relocated to Grand Island, NE, in 2021. The studio is a great place to knit and learn to fix mistakes. I enjoy watching my students learn, grow, step out their knitting box, and create pieces that leave them feeling very successful. Their success is my success!

     I learned to knit when I was 10 from my very talented British grandmother, who lived to be 103. Until the age of 102, sheted a baby blanket each week for a ministry to young mothers seeking help. Before she died, I finally showed her that I had mastered making socks. My grandmother was so very proud of me, and I know she would love the studio as much as I do today. She is my inspiration to this day—such a giving heart.

     I have over 35 years teaching experience. I value the ladies who have passed all their tricks and tips to me and feel privileged to do the same with my students today. I pride myself on being able to crunch numbers, adjust patterns, and even create a few designs of my own. When I realized that knitting involved numbers and math, it opened up a whole new way of problem-solving that helps every day. Needless to say, I love teaching. Knitting is my passion, and sharing that passion a smile to my face. ~Debbie Gilbert
